PinePhone Pro

The only phone designed to be opened by people who read the wiki first

Testé en mainMis à jour 2026-106 min de lecture

A Linux phone held together by 15 standard Phillips screws, with a battery you pop out and a mainboard you swap yourself. PINE64 sells every part, publishes the guides and builds the thing to be repaired. The trade is performance and polish: this is a development platform that happens to make calls, not a daily driver for everyone.

Designed to be taken apart

Fifteen Phillips screws, no adhesive, and a back cover that lifts off to reveal a battery you can pull and a mainboard you can swap. PINE64's own documentation walks the procedure step by step, and the Pine Store sells the screen, midframe, mainboard, battery and cameras as separate parts.

This is the opposite of the glued sandwich that defines the rest of the industry. A device built this way is not repairable as a marketing claim; it is repairable because nothing was done to stop you.

The trade you are making

The openness has a cost. There is no vendor operating system commitment — you boot from a microSD card and maintain the software yourself, which is part of the appeal for developers and a non-starter for most. The Rockchip processor is several generations behind, and the community is small, so spare-part availability and shipping can be uneven.

PINE64 is honest that this is a development platform first. The phone works, and it is a remarkable thing to hold, but it is not the device to recommend to someone who just wants their calls to work.

Who it is for

Buy this if you are a developer, a privacy-focused user who wants hardware kill switches on the radio and cameras, or someone who wants to learn how a phone is actually built. For those people it is the most honest device on this page.

Skip it if you want a polished daily driver, good cameras or long battery life without effort. It is a statement about who should own hardware, not a phone for everyone.
